Max Cananzi
President and CEO
Alectra Utilities Corporation

Over the course of more than 25 years of experience in the energy and utility sector, Max has held a variety of senior positions. In these roles he has been instrumental in facilitating two of Ontario's largest utility mergers and building one of Ontario's most successful energy retailers. In addition to leading Horizon Utilities, Max is also the President and CEO of its holding company, Horizon Holdings Inc., and competitive affiliate, Horizon Energy Solutions Inc.

Max had his start in the sector as part of the leadership team of Scarborough Public Utilities Commission, then one of Ontario's largest municipal electric and water distribution utilities. After participating in the successful merger and integration of the six companies that created the new Toronto Hydro in 1998, Max was appointed Vice President, Energy Portfolio Management and Generation of the newly created Toronto Hydro Energy Services Inc. In this role, he was responsible for energy marketing, electricity and natural gas trading, and generation development.

Max joined Hamilton Hydro Inc. as its President in 2003, the local electric distribution utility for the newly amalgamated City of Hamilton. Soon after assuming the role, Max was instrumental in the merger of Hamilton Hydro and St. Catharines Hydro to create Horizon Utilities Corporation in 2005. In addition to it becoming one of Ontario's most successful LDCs in terms of delivering value for customers, shareholders and communities, Horizon became the first utility in Canada to be designated a "Sustainable Electricity CompanyTM" under Max's leadership.

Beyond the Horizon family of companies, Max serves the energy community in Ontario and Canada as Chair of the board of directors of the Ontario Energy Association (OEA), and board member of the Electricity Distributors Association (EDA), MEARIE (Ontario's electricity industry reciprocal insurance provider), Canadian Electricity Association (CEA), and Ontario Energy Network.

Max is an Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of Toronto and a licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario. He earned his MBA in Finance from the Schulich School of Business at York University.
